Martial Art vs Self Defense

October 14, 2011
Martial Art is the “artistic” expression of combative experience. Self Defense is the sole intent of defeating your opponent without elaborate and fancy movements. Make sure your teacher or your practice sessions make these distinctions clear.Martial Arts is useful in conveying key principles that has been effective in previous combative experience throughout history. The Art itself has been systematize in a way to teach and express the spirit of the combat. The Art can, and should emphasize practical tactics and strategies of warfare. However, because of greed, lack of knowledge or perhaps the lack of experience the martial arts teachers in the martial art industry has been giving the unaware public the false perception that the artistic expression is the same what an actual life and death situation is really about.Self Defense is not about expression, it is about Victory. It is not even about any traditional philosophy, or technique, no it is simply having the skill, the mind and the will to win. How the actual fight is won depend on who possess superior tactics, strategies, preparation of the body & mind, and the ability to execute. There is no fancy movements, techniques, and may not look pretty when it does happen. It is not even about being fair. It is simply just war.
